Bay Shore Steel Works (BSSW), established in 1960, became a wholly owned subsidiary of Grand Traverse Economic Development (GTED) in 2019 following its acquisition by the Grand Traverse Band (GTB) of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. As the economic development arm of the GTB, GTED is dedicated to delivering high-impact services to federal, state, commercial, and tribal partners. BSSW supports this mission by specializing in sustainable, cost-effective, and community-driven solutions. Operating under the name BSSW, the company focuses on two core areas of expertise: Manufacturing Services and Government Services.

Manufacturing Services

Our Manufacturing division is a full-service component manufacturer and finisher, capable of transforming raw plate materials into painted weldments or fully assembled products. While we work with all types of steel and aluminum, our specialty lies in the fabrication of armor plate for the defense industry. We proudly serve as a key supplier of armor components for the Stryker Assault Vehicle, M1 Abrams Tank, and a range of other military armored systems.

Located in a 72,000-square-foot facility just minutes from Lake Michigan and across from one of Michigan’s premier golf resorts, we offer comprehensive process engineering, fabrication, machining, and finishing services.
